Shared branching facilities are locations nationwide that allow members from any participating credit union to perform financial transactions, obtain information from their credit union and perform other general credit union branch transactions or functions.
How many shared branching locations are available-nationwide?
Currently there are over 4,000 locations.
How can I find a list of locations?
Visit the shared branching website at www.co-opsharedbranch.com or call toll-free 1-800-919-2872. All shared branching facilities will post the below signage.
What are the operation hours for shared branching facilities?
Check online to determine hours - most facilities are opened during normal business hours.
What is required to perform a transaction at a shared branch facility?
You must present all of the following information:
- Your Credit Union name—i.e. Family Advantage Federal Credit Union
- Your Credit Union account number
- Valid Government Issued ID with picture - such as a driver’s license, passport, Military ID or government issued ID that is not expired. A work badge is not sufficient. Note: The address on the ID should match the address on the system. If not you will be requested to confirm the address in the system.
- The last 4 digits of your social security number.
If you fail to provide any of the above information, the shared service center will not be able to assist you.
What services are available at the shared branch facility?
At a minimum, the following services are available at all shared branching facilities:
- Account Inquiries
- Loan Payments
- Loan Advances on Overdraft Loan
- Statement Copies
Note: You may also make a transfer between credit unions if both credit unions are participants in the Shared Branching Network.
Can I cash a check presented?
You will be required to deposit the check first and then make a withdrawal based on funds availability. (The Shared Branching Center does not place holds - the holds are placed by Family Advantage Federal Credit Union - If you need access to those funds you must first contact the Credit Union).
Can a shared branching facility accept third party checks?
No, all checks must be made payable to the account holder(s).
Can a non-member make a deposit to my account at a shared branch facility?
Yes, they would be required to present their valid ID, your account number, the last 4 digits of their social security number and the credit union name. They will be given a receipt without balance information.
Will I receive a receipt from the shared branch facility?
Yes, your receipt will display the credit union name, your name, amount and date of the transaction, service center location, teller ID and transaction sequence number. You will also be required to sign the receipt. Identification information will be noted on the transaction receipt.
Which transactions can I perform if the shared branch facility network is down?
You will only be allowed to make deposits until the system is back online.
Can a shared branch facility refuse to process a transaction?
Yes, if the member previously caused a financial loss or was disruptive. Also, a transaction will not be processed if you are unable to provide the proper identification steps as outlined above.
If I am in a bankruptcy or legal proceeding can I still access shared branching?
You will need to contact the Credit Union to determine eligibility.
Will it cost me to use a shared branch facility?
There will be no surcharge or transaction fee. Shared branches may have optional services available such as movie tickets, money orders, etc. that are sold for a fee.
