Countdown to Conversion

28 Days

In order to provide a more robust and feature driven system, we will be conducting a data processing conversion starting on Friday, October 1, 2010 through Sunday, October 3, 2010.

Will the Credit Union be open on Friday, October 1, 2010? Yes, however, we will be in a manual mode—with limited access to system features. The office will be closed on Saturday, October 2, 2010 and re-open on Monday, October 4 at 9:00 a.m.

How will the conversion affect my credit union account access? During the following days, Friday, October 1, 2010 through Sunday evening, October 3, 2010 the following services will be interrupted; all services will be fully restored by Monday, October 4, 2010.

Home Banking—Your Home banking log on will change—sign in with the last 4 digits of the primary member social security number—account data will flow over to the new home banking system; however, the system screens and navigation will be different. Click on the PDF link at the bottom of this page to view screenshots of what the new system will look like.

Bill Pay—you should see no changes on your bill pay.

Audio Response (phone access) will have a new toll-free number 1-877-410-0280 or locally 931-486-0280. Your PIN number will remain the same but listen for new menu prompts. Click on the Conversion Count Down Banner for a copy of the menu. www.myfafcu.org

Will this affect my debit/ATM card? Over the conversion—Friday, October 1 through Sunday evening, October 3, 2010 you may experience intermittent issues with your card.

We ask for your patience during the conversion.

In the meantime, feel free to click here to view a PDF of screenshot images that will show you what the new system and navigation will look like.

At Family Advantage Federal Credit Union we understand that sometimes unplanned expenses occur when you might not have enough money in your account to cover
those unexpected costs. This is why we currently authorize and pay most overdrafts for your ACH withdrawals, Bill Pay transactions, checks written on your account and
everyday debit card transactions. However, because of recent government regulations, we will not be able to authorize and pay overdrafts for your everyday debit card transactions as of August 15, 2010, unless you authorize us to.

By completing the” Opt In” notice, you can easily protect your account and avoid embarrassment or be inconvenienced from having your debit card transaction declined.
You will still pay a fee of $29 each time we pay an overdraft, but you will not be caught in a bind of having your debit card transaction declined because of a lack of funds.
We encourage responsible use of your funds as this product should be used when you need access to emergency funds. We are notifying our members in advance so that you will have plenty of time to respond. If we do not receive a response to this form then we are required by law that you are opting out of this program and your debit card will be denied at point of sale.

We look forward to hearing from you and want to help you with all your financial needs. If you have any questions about this or any other matter related to your finances.

As retirees live longer, their portfolios need to be stronger.

Decades ago, the “typical” retiree left work for good between age 60-65 and typically passed away at about 70-75. Retirement lasted
10-12 years for many Americans. Now the picture has changed: some of us will spend 30, 40, perhaps even 50 years in retirement. (Imagine retiring at 55 and living to be 105 … it is possible.) We may live much longer than our parents, and if we do, we will need a lot more money.

A slight shift in outlook. Years ago, retirees were urged to invest conservatively – often, very conservatively. The idea was to build up your savings and net worth aggressively across two or three decades, and then adopt a risk-averse investment strategy for the “golden years.” But the reality of a 20- or 30-year retirement has changed that mentality.

The new presumption is that today’s retirees should never retire from accumulating wealth. Most Americans will not walk away from their
careers with assets equivalent to 20 or 30 years worth of income. If you have $3 million in assets today, you may think you’ll have $100,000 a year to live on for 30 years. Sounds great, right? But that may not be enough. Questions of liquidity and taxes aside, what about the runaway costs of healthcare and eldercare? What about the effect of inflation across 30 years – do you remember what a gallon of gas or milk cost 30 years ago?

A new reality. You’re now seeing people in their sixties with the kind of portfolios that people used to have in their forties – portfolios with stocks, mutual funds, and other investments with appreciable risk. Sometimes they have to invest this way because they haven’t accumulated sufficient wealth for retirement. Or, they are simply being pragmatic about their long- term need to sustain wealth and keep their retirement assets growing. What kinds of investments should you retire with? The answer to that question can only be determined after you carefully consider some variables, such as the age at which you retire, the assets you have saved up, the lifestyle you want to enjoy, family and health considerations, and how comfortable you are with certain types of investment. Be sure that you speak with a financial advisor who specializs in retirement planning before you make a decision to revise your investment portfolio. Even if you are ten or more years from retirement or plan to keep working into your seventies, I think you will find it eye-opening and useful. Most people underestimate their retirement income needs.

This Disclosure applies to all “transaction” accounts.

Transaction accounts, in general, are accounts which permit an unlimited number of payments to third persons and an unlimited number of telephone and preauthorized transfers to other accounts of yours with us. Checking accounts are the most common transaction accounts. Feel free to ask us whether any of your accounts are covered by these rules.
Please read all provisions carefully in order to fully understand when funds may be available from certain deposits. Funds “availability” means your ability to withdraw funds from your account, whether those withdrawals are to be in cash, by check, automatic payment, or any other method we offer you for access to your account. If deposited funds are not “available” to you on a given day, you may not withdraw the funds in cash and we may not use the funds to pay items that you have written or honor other withdrawals you request. If we pay items that you have written or honor other withdrawals before funds are available to you,
we may charge a fee for this.

Please remember that even after the item has “cleared,” we have made funds available to you, and you have withdrawn the funds, you are still responsible for items you deposit that are returned to us unpaid and for any other problems involving your deposit.
DETERMINING THE AVAILABILITY OFA DEPOS IT – ALL ACCOUNTS
The day funds become available is determined by countingbusiness days from the day of your deposit. Every day is a business day except Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays. If you make a deposit in person before our “cutoff time” on a business day we are open, we will consider that day to be the day of your deposit for purposes of calculating when your funds will become available. However, if you make a deposit after the cutoff time, or on a day we are not open, we will consider that the deposit was made on the next business day we are open. Our cutoff time is 5:00 p.m.
Deposits you send by mail are considered deposited on the business day it arrives if it arrives by the cutoff time at the branch of deposit.
In all cases, availability of any deposit assumes that a requested
withdrawal will not overdraw the account.

IMMEDIATE AVAILABILITY FOR CERTAIN ITEMS
The following types of deposits will usually be available for withdrawal immediately:
• Cash (if deposited in person to an employee of ours);
• Electronic direct deposits;
• Wire transfers; and
• The first $100 from the aggregate of all other deposits made on any given day.
Cash and wire transfer deposits are subject to the Special Rules for New Accounts and the $100 availability is subject to the rule in the section titled Longer Delays May Apply.

ACH Transfers:

If you initiate a wire or ACH transfer from your account at another institution to your Credit Union account (called “ACH debit transfers”), the funds transferred in this way to your Credit Union account will be available on the first business day after the day we receive the deposit, at which time you withdraw the funds in cash and we will use them to pay checks you have written. However, the funds that you transfer by wire or ACH to your Credit Union account from your account at another institution cannot be wired out of your Credit Union account to a non- Credit Union account until the third business day after the day we receive the deposit.
IMMEDIATE AVAILABILITY FOR MOSTOTHER ITEMS

Our general availability policy for items not listed in the prior section is to make funds available to you on the first business day after the day of deposit. We generally make some portion of a day’s deposits available for withdrawal immediately. See the previous section for the types and amounts of deposits that are available immediately.
LONGER DELAYS MAY APPLY

Paper Checks: Depending on the type of check that you deposit, funds may not be available until the second business day after the date of your deposit. The first $100 of your deposits, however, will generally be available no later than the first business day after the day of deposit, and usually immediately. If we are not going to make all of the funds from your deposit available on the first business day, we will notify you at the time you make your deposit; or soon after as reasonably practical. We will also tell you when the funds will be available. If your deposit is not made directly to one of our employees or if we decide to take this action after you have left the premises, we will mail you the notice by the day after we receive your deposit.

If you will need the funds from a deposit right away, you should ask us when the funds will be available.

Safeguard Exceptions:

In addition, funds you deposit by check may be delayed for a longer period under the following circumstances:

• We believe a check you deposit will not be paid.
• You deposit checks totaling more than $5,000 on anyone day.
• You redeposit a check that has been returned unpaid.
• You have overdrawn your account repeatedly in the last six months.
• There is an emergency, such as failure of computer or communications equipment.

We will notify you if we delay your ability to withdraw funds for any of these reasons, and we will tell you when the funds will be available. They will generally be available no later than the seventh business day after the day of your deposit.

SPECIAL RULES FOR NEW ACCOUNTS

If you are a new customer, the following special rules will apply during the first 30 days your account is open:

Funds from electronic direct deposits and deposits of cash and wire transfers to your account will be available on the day we receive the deposit. The first $5,000 of a day’s total deposits of cashier’s, certified, teller’s, traveler’s, on-us checks (checks drawn on a U.S. Bank), and federal, state and local government checks will be available on the first business day after the day of your deposit if the deposit meets certain conditions. For example, the checks must be payable to you. The excess over $5,000 will be available on the fifth business day after the day of your deposit. If your deposit of these checks (other than a U.S. Treasury check) is not made in person to one of our employees, the first $5,000 will not be available until the second business day after the day of your deposit.

Funds from all other check deposits will generally be available on the fifth business day after the day of your deposit. For example, if we receive a check that falls within the Safeguard Exception description above, we may delay funds for up to nine business days. If we do so, we will provide you with a hold notice at the time of deposit or when we learn that we will hold the funds from the deposit.
CASHING CHECKS

If we cash a check for you that is drawn on another bank, we may withhold the availability of a corresponding amount of funds that are already in your account. Those funds will be available at the time funds from the check we cashed would have been available if you had deposited it.

OTHER ACCOUNTS

If we accept for deposit a check that is drawn on another bank, we may make funds from the deposit available for withdrawal immediately but delay your availability to withdraw a corresponding amount of funds that you have on deposit in another account with us. The funds in the other account would then not be available for withdrawal until the day the deposited item would have been available, which will usually be the first business day after the day of deposit.

FOREIGN CHECKS

Checks drawn on financial institutions located outside the U.S. (foreign checks) cannot be processed the same as checks drawn on U.S. financial institutions. Foreign checks are exempt from the policies outlined in this disclosure. Generally, the availability of funds for deposit of foreign checks will be delayed for the time it takes us to collect the funds from the financial institutions upon which it is drawn. Foreign checks with no routing numbers and payable in foreign currency are not accepted for deposit. These items must be sent as a collection item. Only foreign checks payable through a U.S. financial institution with routing numbers and payable in U.S. dollars will be available subject to the schedule described in this section.
*SPECIAL RULES FOR TIME PERIOD ADJUST MENT FOR WITHDRA WALS BY CASH OR SIMILAR MEANS.

The Credit Union reserves the right to extend by one business day the time that funds deposited will be available for withdrawal by cash or similar means. However, an additional $400.00 will be available for withdrawal by cash or similar means on the date funds are otherwise available for withdrawal under this policy.
